This Crooked Little House Stole My Heart in Beverly Hills

If you’ve ever driven through Beverly Hills, you must check out the Spadena House, better known as The Witch’s House. It looks straight out of a fairytale storybook. It’s spooky, but in a cute way. You can’t go inside the house since people live there; however, while I was there, I noticed so many tourists amazed by it and, of course, taking pictures.

The architecture of this house is so unique and magical. It’s mysterious, whimsical, and totally intriguing. When I personally saw this house, I was completely awestruck. I spent about 20–30 minutes just soaking in its magical beauty. It felt like I was transported to another world; a world of fairytales. You really have to walk around and notice all the little details this house has, like the wooden gate up front, the windows, the front door, the garden, and the crooked roof.

The Spadena House was built in 1921, and fun fact, it did not start out as a real home at all. According to Atlas Obscura, the building was originally used as offices and changing rooms for actors at a silent-film studio in Culver City before being moved to Beverly Hills and converted into a private residence. Knowing that it began life as part of a movie studio makes its storybook, slightly unreal appearance make a lot more sense.

Overall, the Spadena House was one of the most unexpected and memorable stops of my trip. In a city known for glamour and luxury, this little storybook house stands out by being completely different. It’s charming, quirky, and full of personality, and it reminds you that not everything worth seeing in Beverly Hills is big or flashy. If you’re visiting the area, the Witch’s House is definitely worth slowing down for it’s the kind of place that makes you believe in a little bit of magic, even if just for a moment.
